Texas is a state of appreciable size and houses a considerable number of inmates in its prison system. Approximately 95-98% of the incarcerated population within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will eventually be released back into society. Studies show that two-thirds will be rearrested within three years of release. However, faith-based programming in prisons has significantly reduced recidivism among inmates who consistently attend faith-based classes while incarcerated. Stepping Stone Ministry, through a rigorous screening process, opens our doors to those inmates who have been actively involved in faith-based programming. One of the most common barriers to an inmate's success upon release from prison is a lack of support and resources for reintegrating back into society. Many become homeless or find themselves in "traditional" halfway houses where drugs and alcohol are readily available and used by other residents. This sets them up for failure and the likelihood to re-offend and put the community at risk. Stepping Stone Ministry has a program that is solution-based with a track record of high success since 2005.
If you have a friend or loved one who is incarcerated and looking for a Christ-centered residential halfway house upon release from prison, there is an application process involved for Stepping Stone Ministry (SSM). The inmate must first write a letter to SSM and explain in detail everything he has been doing to better himself while incarcerated. When SSM receives the letter a file will be opened on the inmate and an application will be mailed to him. He is to fill out the application thoroughly and return it to SSM within thirty days. An admittance committee will then vote on the application and decide whether the inmate is a good fit for the SSM program. If so, an acceptance letter will be mailed to the inmate informing him he is allowed to reside at SSM upon his release from prison. Midland District Parole makes the final decision on whether a parole plan will be approved. All letters requesting an application should be mailed to: Stepping Stone Ministry, PO Box 50092, Midland, TX 79710.
